Edwin Booth papers

Scope and Contents

Collection consists largely of clippings related to Edwin Booth and other 19th century actors. Booth items include notice of a birthday celebration in Baltimore (1898), and the dedication of a memorial window in a church in New York City (1898). Also included are orbituaries of other actors of the period: Stuart Robson, John Sleeper Clarke and Creston Clarke. A photograph of John Wilkes Booth and a clipping describing Greenmount cemetery, where Booth is buried.

Edwin Litchfield Turnbull (1872-1927) was a musician who helped create both the Johns Hopkins University and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. The collection spans the years 1881-1971 and consists of approximately 400 letters, photographs, loose newspaper clippings, juvenile notebooks, and 13 scrapbooks of newspaper clippings relating to musical, social, or other events.

Elgin Ralston Lovell Gould papers

Elisabeth Gilman was born in New Haven, Connecticut, December 25, 1867. She was the younger daughter of Daniel Coit and Mary (Ketcham) Gilman. Her father was a college professor and the first president of The Johns Hopkins University. This collection consists of the diary of Elizabeth Daum, which provides an account of her trip to Europe by ocean liner, July to October, 1926. Elizabeth Daum resided in Scranton, PA in 1926. Her travel diary indicates she was an unmarried, young adult who made a trans-Atlantic crossing to Europe in 1926. Other biographical information of Elizabeth Daum has not been found.

Dwight David Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas in 1890 and died in 1969. he was the 34th President of the United States. The collection, 1948-1979, consists of nearly 180 holographic letters written by Dwight D. Eisenhower and recieved by his personal friends, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Slater, from November 1948 until March 1969. Letters and other materials from Mamie Eisenhower to the Slaters number 114 items and date from October 1950 to November 1979.

Ernest Bueding collection of Albert Schweitzer letters

Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965) was an Alsatian musician, philosopher, physician, missionary, and author. Ernest Bueding was a parasite biochemist and pharmacologist who shared Schweitzer's interest in medicine and music. The collection consists of original manuscript letters of Albert Schweitzer, correspondence of Bueding concerning Schweitzer's work, printed material about Schweitzer, and original and copy photographs of Schweitzer.
